Karen Powell, 76

Karen M. Powell, age 76, of Constantine, died on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Lake House Three Rivers. She was born July 26, 1947 in Cassopolis, a daughter of James Elwood and Marjorie (Munger) Powell. Karen and her family moved to the Constantine area in 1948 and into town in 1959. She graduated from Constantine High School in 1965. Karen worked as a secretary for several organizations including the St. Joseph Co. ISD for over 30 years, Constantine United Methodist Church, Heartwood Renaissance Academy of Sturgis, and finally at Lake House Three Rivers taking notes as part of the resident council.

She was a devoted member of Constantine United Methodist Church serving as education chairperson and Sunday School teacher, Administrative Council secretary and member of the choir. Her beautiful alto voice was heard in many programs and as a soloist throughout the years.  Karen also shared her musical talents with other churches and cantatas, the Make We Merry program in Three Rivers, and playing the accordion. She was a long time volunteer at the St. Joseph County Grange Fair, also submitting many knitting projects. Karen enjoyed taking bus trips and tours around the country, as well as loving cats and Koala Bears. She will always be remembered as a devoted daughter who dedicated her life to the care of her parents.

Surviving are many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends will be received Saturday, July 27, 2024 from 10 to 11 AM at Constantine United Methodist Church, where a memorial service will begin at 11 AM. Pastor Karen Wheat will officiate. Interment of ashes will be in the Constantine Township Cemetery at a later date.
