Michigan Department of Transportation’s Chris Jacobs has issued an update regarding the second phase of U.S. 131 construction.
Work, which started April 15, is concentrated to an area that includes the village of Schoolcraft and an area north to Shaver Road.
According to Jacobs, completed work includes hot-mix asphalt leveling of median lanes south of railroad; permanent signs in place south of the railroad; pavement was removed and excavation has taken place south of the railroad; and aggregate base has been placed on median shoulders from Lyons Street to U Avenue.
The two-week outlook includes installation of a storm sewer south of Cherry Street; railroad grade to be built south of Homes Street, hot-mix asphalt leveling south and crossovers north of Lyons Street; curb and sidewalk installation from Eliza Street to Lyons Street; sidewalk installation at XY Avenue for bicycle crossing; rebuilding the west side of Eliza Street; and pavement removal and excavation south of the railroad.
Upcoming work includes the closure of the railroad crossing for two weeks starting July 15.
