Police investigate use of counterfeit bills

Michigan State Police Troopers are investigating a string of counterfeit bills being passed at local area businesses in the Tekonsha area last month.

Authorities said the scam starts with a customer providing counterfeit cash. The customer then has the store clerk transfer the cash onto on an online card.

Investigators said the suspect is a black female in her early- to mid-20s. She has been seen wearing a black sweatshirt and a yellow hair wrap. She is believed to be working with a crew of people working to pass these fake bills.

Troopers are urging area businesses to be mindful when receiving a large amount of cash, and to take extra steps to determine if the money is real.
