Power outage causes sewage overflow into Swan Creek

Colon Department of Public Works employees continue their efforts to correct a situation Tuesday that resulted in raw sewage leaking into Swan Creek.

According to village officials, the incident was the result of a power outage early Tuesday. It caused the lift station on Catherine Street and North Swan Street to shut down.

As a result, about 100 gallons of raw swage backed up to a manhole and overflowed into Swan Creek.

Residents are advised to stay out of Swan Creek until further notice.
