Anita R. Nystrom, age 86, of Colon, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Anita was born on April 5, 1938, in Sturgis, a daughter to the late Kenneth and Alice (Snook) Lahrke. Anita was a graduate of Colon High School.
On April 26, 1958, Anita married her husband of 64 years John D. Nystrom at the Centreville Lutheran Church. John preceded Anita in death on January 16, 2023.
For 18 years Anita worked at Kirsch Co. in Sturgis. She then worked for the Colmer Co. in Colon until she decided to attend Beauty School and do hair for the remainder of her career. Anita and John were members of the Colon Baptist Church.
Surviving Anita are her children: Robin (George) Frisbie of Colon, Joni Kupiecki of Bronson, Lori (Mark) O’Connell of New Albany, Indiana, And David (Lori) Nystrom of Colon, 10 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren, and sister-in-law Donna Lahrke.
Besides her parents Kenneth and Alice Lahrke, and her husband John D. Nystrom, Anita was preceded in death by her brother Kenneth Lahrke Jr., nephew Carl Lahrke, and son-in-law Jerry Kupiecki.
The Nystrom family will receive friends and relatives from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at the Schipper Funeral Home LTD. in Colon. A funeral service will follow the visitation beginning at 12:00. Cremation will follow the funeral service. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks memorial donations be made to the Colon Baptist Church.
