Fatal motorcycle crash

A 32-year-old Sturgis man died following a crash Monday.

Michigan State Police troopers responded at 7 a.m. to an area of U.S. 12 near Shimmel Road.

Authorities said the man was driving a motorcycle westbound when he attempted to pass two vehicles – a passenger car and a semi.

While passing the semi, the motorcycle struck an eastbound vehicle head-on. The motorcycle driver, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle, a 40-year-old White Pigeon woman, sustained minor injuries, according to troopers.

Investigators said neither alcohol nor drugs are considered to be factors. Speed and improper passing, however, are believed to have contributed to the collision, authorities said.
