Fatal shooting in White Pigeon

A Sturgis woman died after she was shot during a domestic situation last week in White Pigeon.

State police troopers were called at 4:30 p.m. Friday to McDonald’s at the southeast corner of U.S. 12 and U.S. 131. Investigators said the 25-year-old woman and a 29-year-old Sturgis man had met at the restaurant for a child-custody exchange.

Authorities said the woman was inside her car while the man stood outside the vehicle as they got into an argument. The man pulled out a firearm and allegedly shot the woman multiple times, detectives said. He then shot himself.

The woman died at South Bend Memorial Hospital; the man survived but is in critical condition at Bronson Hospital.

Troopers said the couple’s children were not present when the alleged shooting took place.
