MDOT begins planned roadwork

Michigan Department of Transportation has started work on one of its three planned projects this summer.

A section of M-86, from South Main Street in Three Rivers to West Main Street in Centreville, started Monday.

MDOT’s Nick Schirripa said the work involves a three-step process beginning with a chip-seal step, followed by a procedure Schirripa called a fog seal and completed with a task called micro-surfacing.

Other areas eyed for similar improvements in St. Joseph County are: U.S. 131, from Dickinson Road to Garber Road in Constantine Township, and M-60, from Hoffman Road in Three Rivers to Plainfield Drive in Mendon Township.

Cost of the three jobs is $2.5 million, Schirripa said.
