SJC Board of Commissioners results

A pair of contested races to St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners were decided during Tuesday’s primary election.

First-term incumbent Luis Rosado fended off a challenge from David Hayslip, maintaining the 4th District seat by a margin of 54 percent of all votes to Hayslip earning more than 45 percent of the votes.

Rosado, for the next four years, will continue to represent Constantine, Mottville and White Pigeon townships.

The 5th District seat – up for grabs after incumbent Dennis Allen chose to not seek re-election – was claimed by Sturgis Township resident Christina Yunker.

She had 852 votes, 85 more than Sherman Township opponent Craig Crabill.

Yunker will take her seat in January and represent Nottawa and Sherman townships, a portion of Sturgis Township and a portion of the city of Sturgis.

She, too, will serve a four-year term.
