Michigan Department of Transportation’s Chris Jacobs has issued an update regarding the second phase of U.S. 131 construction.
The project, which started April 15, is concentrated to an area that includes the village of Schoolcraft and an area north to Shaver Road.
According to Jacobs, recently completed work includes installation of storm sewers from the railroad crossing to Cass Street; hot-mix asphalt added south of the railroad; and pavement removal and hot-mix asphalt milling between Eliza Street to Lyons Street.
Upcoming work includes sidewalk installation at XY Avenue; storm-sewer installation in the northbound lane from Holmes Street to Lyons Street; hot-mix asphalt over culverts; ditch work north of Lyons Street; and building of grade layer from Eliza Street to Lyons Street.
MDOT officials said Shaver Road closure may be pushed to later in August and the agency will provide at least a one-week advance notice to the public. Meanwhile, U Avenue west of U.S. 131 will be closed temporarily following the Shaver Road closure.
