A suspect in a Kalamazoo County carjacking incident over the weekend was eventually taken into custody in Three Rivers.
Police chief Scott Boling said officers used an automated license plate reader system to get a detailed description of the stolen vehicle. A St. Joseph County Deputy observed the stolen vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
The driver fled and the car hit an occupied vehicle. It then started driving through a residential lawn before it crashed. The suspect fled on foot and, despite the efforts of a K-9 team, was not captured after the K-9 unit lost a scent trail at the Portage River.
Several hours later, a concerned citizen spotted a suspicious person and called 911. Officers managed to take the suspect into custody.
The location of arrest and the suspect’s name were not included in a department media release.
