Jack Hill, 79

John C. “Jack” Hill, age 79, of Sturgis, passed away Friday afternoon, August 30, 2024, at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital in Battle Creek.

He was born May 29, 1945, in Chicago, son of the late Charles and Veronica (Gilstrap) Hill.

Jack resided in Sturgis since 2013 coming from Chicago, where he graduated from Chicago Vocational School in 1963. He furthered his education at University of Illinois where he earned a bachelor’s degree and he also completed a Fellowship at University of Paris in Paris, France.

On February 13, 1971, he married Judith Ann Schmidt in Chicago. She preceded in death November 4, 2017.

Jack was a talented architect. He was employed by the City of Chicago for many years. He had served as project manager for several major projects in the city including the construction of the McCormick Place West Building and the Chicago Transit Authority Orange Line.

He was an avid reader and never stopped seeking more knowledge and enjoyed time at the family home on Prairie Lake since 1972.

Jack is survived by his son: Jason (Karen) Hill of Alsip, Illinois; daughter: Jessica (Dan) Arvanites of Thronton, Colorado; grandsons: Logan Hill and Greyson Hill; granddaughter: Carly Arvanites and sister: Judy Molenar.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother: Mike Hill.

In honoring Jack’s wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Private entombment of the remains will take place at Sturgis Memorial Gardens in Sturgis.

The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations would be appreciated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
