James Browne, 89

James A Browne, age 89, of Sturgis, passed away unexpectedly Monday morning, September 23, 2024, at Parkview LaGrange Hospital in LaGrange.

He was born April 27, 1935, in Detroit, son of the late Allen and Julia (Bodie) Browne.

Jim resided in Sturgis for the past 36 years coming from Taylor where he served as a councilman for eight years.

On August 25, 1956, he married Georgia G. Verdis in Detroit.

Jim retired from Consolidated Lumber Company in Taylor following 31 years of dedicated employment as a truck driver. After moving to Sturgis, he worked for a few years at Leland Engineering in White Pigeon.

Jim was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War earning the rank of PFC.

He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, playing golf, bowling, and was a lifelong loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers and Lions.

He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 68 years: Georgia; daughters: Kimberly K. (Matthew) Redigan of Dearborn and Michelle R. (Paul) Williams of Sturgis; son: Jeffry (Lori) Browne of Englewood, Florida; eight grandchildren: Sydney Redigan, Molly (Steven) Fournier, Hannah Redigan, Patrick Redigan, Ashley Browne, Adam (Colleen) Browne, Tasha (her fiancée Rudy Kirner) Williams and Madeline (Michael) Myers; eight great grandchildren: Jordon, Indira, Penelope, Atticus, Colt, Amara, Paige and Liam; sister: Shirley Maday of Nevada; sister-in-law: Brenda Goddard of Florida and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Robert Browne and John Goddard.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Thursday, Sept. 26th at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 218 W. Main St. in Burr Oak where funeral services celebrating the life of James A. Browne will immediately follow the visitation at 1:00. The Rev. Kurt Kuhlman will officiate. A graveside committal will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis Thursday at 3:00. Full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Marine Corp Honor Guards.

The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.
