Threat closes TR schools

A juvenile who lives outside the Three Rivers city limits has been identified as the person who allegedly posted an online threat toward Three Rivers Community Schools this week.

Undersheriff Jason Bingaman said St. Joseph County Central Dispatch received a number of phone calls shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday from citizens reporting the threat, which was made through the Snapchat social media platform.

Three Rivers Police Department officers joined in the investigation after officials began to attempt locating the source of the alleged threat.

District officials decided to close all Three Rivers schools Thursday for the day. Three Rivers Police officers eventually identified a juvenile suspect who authorities believe was behind the alleged threat.

The suspect was brought to the sheriff’s office by his mother and is fully cooperating with the investigation, authorities said. A police report will be forwarded to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s office and Juvenile Court for review of possible charges.
