Glen Oaks speaker series begins this week

Glen Oaks Community College kicks off its 2024-25 Viking Speaker Series on Thursday.

Temple Grandin is the first speaker of the season. She is scheduled to speak at 6 p.m. Thursday at Firm Foundations Ministries in Centreville.

According to her bio, Grandin has transformed the livestock industry with her handling-facility designs. These designs enhance farm-animal welfare in the United States and Canada.

In addition, she has written numerous industry publications and books, advocating compassionate and scientific livestock management.

Her insights as an individual with autism bring unique value to animal science and autism advocacy, Glen Oaks officials said.

Grandin will sign books 7:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Attendees can buy a limited selection of her books at the event.

The Viking Speaker Series is free and showcases the college’s commitment to accessible education.
