Fibre Converters of Constantine is offering a matching grant of up to $100,000 toward installation of new playground equipment at Meyer Broadway Park in Fabius Township.
St. Joseph County Parks and Recreation Director Jaymes MacDonald said total cost of the project is $320,000. The county has already received a $77,000 grant and plans to provide in-kind services of nearly $40,000 for removal of old equipment, site excavation and installation of mulch.
Nonetheless, MacDonald said, there is still a $200,000 shortfall. If the agency can raise $100,000 before the end of the calendar year, it will qualify for the match and meet its goal of $200,000, MacDonald noted.
Meyer Broadway, the county’s most popular park based on attendance figures, draws about 300,000 people a year, MacDonald said.

It would be very nice if you could put in a step system at the dog park. It is impossible for a handicapped person to navigate the hill. Also, a handrail. It seems like people that have mobility issues are short changed and just give up trying to take their pets to the park. Some gravel and rail way ties would be an easy fix.
