Rick Grim, 70

Richard L. “Rick” Grim, age 70, of Sturgis, passed away on August 26, 2024, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born February 19, 1954, in Sturgis, son of Jack W. and Joan (Maystead) Grim.

Rick was a lifelong resident of Sturgis and a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1972, furthering his education at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. On September 11, 1982, he married Vickie Myers in Eagle Rock, California. Rick owned and operated Lonespruce Farm Services in Sturgis. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sturgis and Meridian Sun-Eagle Lodge #49 F&AM. Rick was always ready to help others, especially his many farmer friends. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and participating in the Annual Tractor Crossing of the Mackinac Bridge. Rick truly loved time with his family, especially his grandchildren. His famous popcorn and cooking will be forever missed.

He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 42 years: Vickie; children: Tyler & Megan Grim of Phoenix, Arizona, Corey Grim of Sturgis and Taylor & Dr. Caleb Taylor of Austin, Texas; grandchildren: Tyson, Tristan, C.J., Jackson and Casime; parents: Jack and Joan (Maystead) Grim of White Pigeon; brother: David & Pamela Grim of Bevery Hills: Uncle John Maystead and several beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother: Larry Grim and grandparents: Forrest and Pearl Grim and LeRoy C. and Ione E. Maystead.

In honoring Rick’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be at 2:30 Saturday, October 5th at the family farm located at 26110 Grim Rd. Sturgis, MI 49091.

The family will be compiling a memory book and asks if possible, to please bring your favorite memory with Rick written down, photos are great too. Details regarding the Celebration of Life will be shared on Rick’s Facebook page. The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.
