Sturgis woman injured in crash

A Sturgis woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash over the weekend in Indiana’s DeKalb County.

Deputies responded at 2:40 p.m. Saturday to an area on U.S. 6 and County Road 19.

Investigators said Trinka Rinard, 54, was driving a car that struck the rear of a vehicle driven by 30-year-old Adam Hartman, of Auburn, Ind.

Sheriff’s officials said Rinard was driving east on U.S. 6 when she took her eyes off the road to retrieve an item that fell to the floor of her vehicle. She told investigators she did not see that Hartman’s car was stopped, waiting for traffic to clear so he could turn left onto County Road 19.

Authorities said Rinard’s car was traveling 55 miles per hour at the time of the crash.

Rinard was treated at Parkview Hospital for treatment related to lower back pain, numbness in her legs and abrasions on both arms.

Hartman declined medical treatment.
