Two Constantine residents died in a head-on crash last weekend in Florence Township.
St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded around 9:30 a.m. Sunday to Sevison Road, near the intersection of Mintdale Road.
Investigators said the 22-year-old driver of a Mercedes was heading north on Sevison Road when the driver, a White Pigeon resident, lost control. The vehicle crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a southbound pickup, authorities said.
The driver and passenger of the pickup – a 60-year-old woman and 51-year-old man – were pronounced dead at the scene, according to deputies.
The driver of the Mercedes was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Before the crash, sheriff’s deputies tried to stop the Mercedes in an area on U.S. 131, but the driver did not stop.
The sheriff’s office said the Mercedes driver had a suspended license. Speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash, authorities said.
