Gilbert Jones, 75

Gilbert L. Jones, age 75, of Sturgis, passed away late Thursday evening, October 31, 2024, at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, surrounded by his family.

He was born November 26, 1948, in Sturgis, the only child of the late Lee R. and Winnifred E. (Bell) Jones.

Gilbert was a lifelong Sturgis resident.

On October 2, 1970, he married Patricia Stevens in Union City.

He was a truck driver by trade. A career he enjoyed for 42 years.

Gilbert was proud to have served his country in the U. S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War earning the rank of Lance Corporal. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Combat Action Ribbon, and Rifle Sharpshooter Badge.

In his early life he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis.

He was an active member of the Marine Corp League and loved camping.

Gilbert is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 54 years: Patricia; their children: Holly Jones-Gushwa of Sturgis, Bradley Jones of Bronson, and Heather Jones of Sturgis; grandchildren: Brandon Jones, Gabbie (Bowen) McCollough, Alex Carlisle, Kayla Jones and Kayden Jones and great grandson: Braxton Jones; cousins brought up as brothers: Russ, Randy and Rick Johnson.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, November 6th at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd. in Sturgis where funeral services celebrating the life of Gilbert L. Jones will immediately follow the visitation at 1:30. Earl and DeVonna Allison will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Sturgis Memorial Gardens in Sturgis. Full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Marine Corp Honor Guard.
