Glen Oaks expands scholarship eligibility

Glen Oaks Community College officials made a revision related to eligibility for a pair of scholarships.

During their monthly meeting last week, Glen Oaks Board of Trustees OK’d a plan to reach beyond St. Joseph County for potential recipients of the President’s Scholarship and the Dean’s Scholarship.

Denise DeVries, Glen Oaks director of communications, said the revision to Policy 3.15 is the result of fewer scholarship applications in recent years. In fact, she said applications also have been down for Foundation scholarships, as well. The policy change expands the geographic area beyond St. Joseph County if money is available.

DeVries said opportunities for Foundation scholarships will be adjusted, too. It is likely fewer students are seeking scholarships due to the Michigan Guarantee and Michigan Reconnect, which cover tuition for qualifying students in the state, she said.
