Man arrested in vehicle theft

A Centreville man was arrested Tuesday after attempting to steal a vehicle from a residence in Florence Township.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 62000 block of Wahl Road in response to a report of an attempted theft of vehicle.

The suspect fled in the vehicle as deputies arrived, resulting in a short pursuit. The driver then abandoned the vehicle and attempted to run from the scene.

Deputies were quickly able to get the 43-year-old suspect into custody. He was taken to Sturgis Hospital for a mental evaluation.

Charges will be sought for unlawful driving away of an automobile, fleeing and eluding, and resisting and obstructing authorities.
