Scott Taylor, 69

Scott Alan Taylor, age 69, of Hubert, NC went to be with the Lord on November 2nd, 2024 after a long battle with cancer. He passed peacefully.

Scott was born in Niles to Lamar Dean Taylor and Susan Ann (Kirtland) Taylor.

In 1995 he married the love of his life, Evelyn Gilchrist, in Sturgis. They moved to Reno, NV, before moving to Hubert, NC for their final residence.

Scott spent his early life in Fruitport and Kalamazoo, before moving to Sturgis in 1971 with his family. In school he discovered his love of music and saxophone. He was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1974 and attended Glen Oaks Community College. It was at this time he began playing music with his life long best friend John Pagels, with whom he worked with in many musical endeavors over the years.

For many years Scott was the Manager at the Hardings east bakery in Sturgis, with his second career being in construction where he built many custom homes, including his final personal residence where he retired.

Scott was very mechanically inclined, working on small engines, cars, and home appliances. If he owned it, he fixed it. This included several vintage vehicles, and his Harley Davidson.

Scott left a long trail of friends everywhere he and Evelyn went.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents and brother in law James Fiebig.

He leaves behind his wife Evelyn, sons Jack Mott and Jasen Bassage, brothers and sisters-in-law Kirt and Dianne Taylor, Steve and Janice Taylor, Lee and Shirley Taylor, John Gilchrist, Jo Ann Fiebig, Sandy and Wayne Jakubik, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial celebrating Scott’s life will be held May 10, 2025, time to be announced.

The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is assisting the family with local arrangements.

Scott loved animals. The family suggests that those wishing to make a memorial donation do so at a No Kill animal shelter of your choice.
