A 21-year-old woman was charged last week with open murder.
Undersheriff Jason Bingaman said Paige Bohne was charged in connection to an incident shortly before 1 p.m. Nov. 7 at Memory Lane trailer park in Sturgis Township.
Deputies and first responders were dispatched to the residence for a report of an unresponsive 2-year-old. Attempts to revive the child, identified as Octavia Bohne, were unsuccessful and the child was pronounced deceased at the residence.
Due to the circumstances surrounding the death of the child, St. Joseph County Major Crimes Task Force was activated. Bohne was subsequently taken into custody on an original charge of involuntary manslaughter.
The charge was revised to open murder and Bohne was arraigned Friday last week. Bond has been denied.
