Beverly A. Nicholas, age 81, of Centreville, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at Three Rivers Health following a brief illness. She was born in Huntington, Indiana on April 21, 1943 the daughter of Isaac and Florence (Staples) Broom.
Beverly attended Rome City High School and was part of the 1961 graduating class. On February 11, 1978 Beverly married Paul “David” Nicholas in Niles, Michigan. Beverly was a woman who took pride in her gifts, making sure most of her surprises were hand-made; Mother’s Day and Father’s Day presents to those in her church; Halloween bags for the children; Easter presents accompanied by a $2 bill; and yes, even flame-retardant dresses for her grandchildren. These tasks would not have been possible without her loving family taking part in “the family sweat shop”. Her favorite color was purple, she enjoyed Australian black licorice, and loved her soap operas. Beverly was granted with the 2008 Citizen of the Year award in Centreville. She was a very giving person, making sure underprivileged kids received a care package from her in a time of need, and starting up the Soup Suppers through her church. Beverly looked forward to her camping trips with her family and gazing at lighthouses. She had a gift for gab and a love for everyone, especially her family.
Beverly is survived by her husband, David Nicholas; nine children; Paul (Julie) Nicholas Jr., Janet (John) Fox, Sonja (Michael) Ganger, Dawn “Chip” (Chris) Iott, Thomas (Keri) Nicholas, Michael (John) Gamet-Herendeen, Karen (Matt) Nusbaum, Mary (Nathan Barker) Herendeen, and Martha (Susan Pruitt) Herendeen; Twenty grandchildren; Twenty-Two great-grandchildren; siblings; Shirley Wonders, Jeraldine Olvera, Carol Leitch, Florence Vandekeere, and Kelly Broom. She was preceded in death by her parents Isaac and Florence; her step father Donald Frick; and siblings Janice and Kenneth Broom.
Visitation for Beverly will take place on Monday, December 16, 2024 from 2 until 6pm at the Centreville United Methodist Church (305 E. Main Street, Centreville, MI 49032). A private family ceremony will take place at a later date. It is suggested that memorials made in her name be made to the Centreville United Methodist Church Soup Supper.
