Carl Eaton, 95

Carl Elsworth Eaton, age 95, of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday morning, December 18, 2024, at his home.

He was born October 19, 1929, in Sturgis, son of the late Wesley Harl and Florence Edna (Harris) Eaton. Carl was raised by his foster parents, Charles and Eula Comminator.

Carl was a lifelong Sturgis resident and graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1947.

On September 4, 1948, he married Phyllis Ellen Clemens in Sturgis. She preceded him in death May 1, 2007.

Carl retired from the Kirsch Company in Sturgis following 41 years of dedicated employment as a truck driver, and he was a farmer.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis, and enjoyed square dancing, attending dances at the C.O.A., and was happiest when he was helping his grandson David around the farm.

Carl was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Navy earning the rank of A/S.

He is survived by his daughter: Carla Ellen (Patrick) McCarty of Colon; son: Scott (Connie) Eaton of Coldwater; grandchildren: David (Melissa) Eaton of Sturgis, Leslie (John) Clark of Kalamazoo and Laurel (Hector) Shavez of Kalamazoo; adopted grandson: Leroy Williams of Sturgis; five great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, foster parents; two sisters and five brothers.

A graveside service and burial will take place at 10:00 A.M., Monday, Dec. 23rd at the Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak. The Rev. Sue Babb of the First United Methodist of Sturgis will officiate.

The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.
