County commission reaches contract agreements

St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners has reached a contract agreement with six of the county’s 10 unions.

By unanimous vote during Tuesday’s monthly board meeting, commissioners OK’d three-year contracts with AFSCME groups representing Circuit Court and Friend of the Court, Family Court, Probate Court and its General Unit. The other two groups are St. Joseph County District Court Employees’ Association and FOP – Correction Officer Division.

County administrator Teresa Cupp said all contracts cover a three-year period. Highlights of the agreement include a 5 percent cost-of-living adjustment and annual raises of 3 percent per year.

Cupp said in all, about 40 employees are in the AFSCME group, fewer than a dozen in the District Court Employees’ Association and 21 in the FOP group.

The four groups for which contract agreements remain outstanding are: FOP – Corrections Sergeant Division, road officer unit, road command division and 911 Central Dispatch.
