County commission sets first meeting of the year

St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners has set its first meeting date of the new year.

The matter was settled during Tuesday’s monthly meeting.

The seven-member board agreed to assemble at 5 p.m. Jan. 7. Key matters of business will include selecting a board chairman and vice-chairman for the calendar year.

The commission will continue to follow its 2024 meeting schedule. That includes executive committee meetings at 4 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month and board of commissioners meetings at 5 o’clock the third Thursday of the month.

In another matter of county business, sheriff-elect Chad Spence will be sworn into office at 4 p.m. Jan. 2 to begin his four-year term.
