A 26-year-old Branch County man was arrested on a number of charges after attempting to elude state police troopers last week.
According to a Michigan State Police media release, troopers were called late Saturday night to a location in the 1000 block of Jonesville Road in Branch County’s Butler Township in response to a report of domestic assault.
Upon arrival, authorities discovered the assault was related to a child-custody dispute and found probable cause to arrest the suspect. While attempting to take the man into custody, troopers noted the suspect disobeyed orders to exit the vehicle. The man drove from the scene, briefly dragging a trooper for approximately 10 feet.
The suspect continued to elude authorities while driving at a high rate of speed. Troopers eventually located the suspect at an address in Hillsdale.
The 1-month-old child was unharmed and returned to its mother.
Meanwhile, the suspect faces charges of domestic violence, child endangerment, resisting and obstructing causing injury, and fleeing and eluding.
