Matthew Dale Heslet, a cherished resident of Macomb, Michigan and formerly of Utica, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Sunday, December 8, 2024. He was 67 years old. Born on April 24, 1957, in Three Rivers, Matthew was the beloved son of Dwight Dale and Wanda Lucille (née Eley) Heslet.
Growing up in Three Rivers, Matthew achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1975. He went on to attend Ivy Tech School in Indiana, earning his HVAC certification. His expertise led to a long career in the industry, first working at Berkheimer in Fort Wayne, before relocating to Macomb County, Michigan, where he joined Cochrane Supply and Engineering. Matthew retired in 2021 due to illness, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and hard work.
On June 15, 2003, Matthew married the love of his life, Janet, in a memorable ceremony at the Candlelight Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. Together, they shared a beautiful life filled with travel and adventure, recently celebrating their 21st wedding anniversary. From camping trips in Michigan to Tahquamenon Falls, Brimley State Park, Sault Ste. Marie, and Lake Superior, to their favorite anniversary stays in Port Huron watching freighters pass by, they created countless memories. They also cherished their visits to Ohiopyle State Park in Pennsylvania, marveling at its waterfalls and natural beauty.
Matthew had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying camping, fishing, and cooking. A loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers, he was thrilled to attend his first game at the Champions Club in Comerica Park. Matthew also loved a good game of dominoes and Euchre, which brought laughter and joy to family gatherings. He was happiest surrounded by family and treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren. Also among his greatest joys was spending time with his beloved dog, Kibby.
Matthew was a man of deep faith and spirituality, known for his loyalty, calm demeanor, and reliability. His kindness touched everyone who knew him, and he leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories.
Matthew is survived by his loving wife, Janet Heslet; his children, Jennifer, Sharae, Dustin, and Shannon; his six adored grandchildren; his mother, Wanda Hogle; and his mother-in-law, Delores Guay. He also leaves behind his sisters, Sharon Brooks of Port Orange, FL, Joy Rumsey (Dennis) of Jones; as well as niece Alyssa Rumsey and nephew Robert D. Brooks. He was preceded in death by his father, Dwight Dale Heslet.
A memorial gathering to honor Matthew’s life will take place on Monday, December 30, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Gramer Funeral Home, Diener Chapel, located at 48271 Van Dyke Avenue, Shelby Township, Michigan, 48317.
