Memorial ceremony held for former assistant prosecutor

A number of courthouse employees in St. Joseph County attended a memorial and dedication ceremony last week for former assistant prosecutor Melissa Hallack.

The 45-year-old Mendon woman died May 30 after the vehicle she was driving was struck head-on by a drunken driver during an early morning crash on Silver Street in Mendon Township.

Thursday’s gathering at the St. Joseph County Courthouse satellite location in Three Rivers featured reflections by attorney Ross Truckey, probate court judge-elect Kevin Kane and other dignitaries. In addition, a handmade clock made by attorney-referee Tom Robertson was revealed and dedicated.

A number of Hallack’s family members were on hand and expressed their appreciation to Robertson and event organizers.

The suspect in the case, a 24-year-old man from Hillsdale County, died a few days after the crash.
