Robert DeVon Beachey, age 82, of White Pigeon, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Centrica Rose Arbor Place.
He was born June 23, 1942 in Constantine, the son of Elmer L. and Ruth P. (McBrier) Beachey, and grew up on the farm surrounded by animals and grain crops.
Bob graduated from Constantine High School with the Class of 1960, then attended Fort Wayne Bible College and later Denver Community College.
While at Fort Wayne Bible College, he and fellow student Marilyn Lehmann participated in a Christmas service together at church, and, as he put it, “I liked what I saw.” The couple married on April 10, 1965.
Bob served his country in the United States Air Force from 1964-66: completing basic training at Lackland AFB, training at Lowry AFB in Denver, and was a member of the supply squadron in Roswell, N.M.
The newlyweds moved to Colorado for four years after he left the service, but later returned to Southwest Michigan. He worked at Robert Weed Plywood for nearly 20 years, but also at Penn Controller, Essex Wire, Jacobs Trucking, American Axle, and K&K Trucking.
Bob loved fishing, woodworking, and raising sweet corn – which he would deliver all over and share with everyone.
He was an active member of the Three Rivers Church of the Nazarene, where he taught Sunday School.
The most important thing in his life was knowing and believing in God, and praying for his family.
Remaining to cherish his memory are his wife, Marilyn Beachey; children, Wesley (Joan) Beachey, Kristina (Tom) Mann, Kevin (Kayrn) Beachey, and Jon Beachey; grandchildren, Jennifer, Robert (Rachel), Kaleb (Ashlan), Kyle (Stacey), Kolton, Nathan, Kody, Kelsey, Hope, Kami, Rebekah, Daniel, and Samuel; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sisters, Clara and Mary.
His family will receive friends Sunday, December 29, 2024 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Three Rivers Church of the Nazarene, 1221 Coon Hollow Rd., Three Rivers. A funeral service will be held Monday, December 30, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Rich Saunders officiating. He will be laid to rest in Constantine Cemetery.
Donations in Bob’s memory may be directed to the Answers in Genesis Ark Encounter. Envelopes will be available at the church and at Hohner Funeral Home.
