Bill Howell, 71

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of our dad’s passing. William Artho Howell (Bill, Grandpa Bill) died on December 5th, 2024 at the age of 71.

Bill was born to Walter Henry and Bertie Lenora Howell on 12/12/1952. He was the fifth of seven children, and loved telling stories about growing up with all his siblings. He often expressed appreciation for how his parents always put food on the table and showed them love, despite having little monetary means.

Bill graduated from Cordova High School and quickly became a bit of a ramblin’ man. He spent parts of his life in Michigan, Wyoming, and Alabama. He worked several different jobs throughout his life, but spoke the most fondly about being a “juggie.” He spent his last days in Michigan where he enjoyed spending time with his daughter, Melissa, and her son Devon.

Bill often said that nature was his church. He taught his children to fish, hike, tromp through snow to find the perfect Christmas tree, and even how to golf. His favorite things were his mama’s home cooking, sweet tea and “nanner puddin'”, his old guitar, and, in spite of himself, his dogs. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him and got to experience his deep, soothing voice telling long stories.

Bill was preceded in death by his father-Walter, Mother-Bertie, Sisters- Jane and Beth, and brothers- Wayne and Terry.

He is survived by his children, Melissa Kohler, Henry Howell, Katherine Blaine, Michael Howell, his wife, Tracy Lyell Howell, his brother Larry Howell, his sister Alice Adcock, as well as several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

We won’t be holding a public service at this time. Bill wouldn’t want the fuss. We will gather to remember him this summer in Star Valley, Wyoming. In the meantime, if you’d like to share photos or stories you have with Bill, you can email them to Katherine (Katie) at akblaine@gmail.com.

If you want to honor Bill, you can donate to The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), or your local mental heath agency. You can also give extra big hugs to your loved ones during the holiday season.
