County commission acknowledge board member

St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners took a moment last week to recognize one of its own.

During the board’s monthly meeting Tuesday, a proclamation acknowledging Ken Malone and the two years he served as chairman of the seven-member panel was approved and presented to the Sturgis resident. In addition, he was presented a replica gavel to symbolize his tenure as board chair.

Malone, who was head of the county commission for 2023 and 2024, remains on the board but in the capacity of commissioner. The chairman’s post was allocated to Jared Hoffmaster by board vote earlier this month.

Malone, who is starting his seventh year on the county commission, serves most of the city of Sturgis as well as a portion of Sturgis Township.
