Fred Wesley Pruitt, age 72, of Three Rivers, passed away on December 5, 2024. He was born on December 28, 1951, in Indianapolis, and had been a resident of Three Rivers for the past 30 years.
Fred retired from Three Rivers Hospital, where he worked as a cook, a job he loved. He had a passion for cooking and was especially known for his delicious apple pies and chili. In fact, Fred won a chili cook-off contest, a true testament to his culinary skills. He took great joy in cooking for those in need, often preparing meals for people down on their luck. Fred also loved fishing and gardening, and he cherished the time spent with his friends and family.
Fred married Martha Schultz on November 26, 2008, and together they shared a loving and fulfilling life. He was a father to his son, Erick Pruitt of Ankeny, Iowa, and his daughters, Erin Pruitt of Charlottesville, Virginia, and Nicole Pruitt of Michigan. Fred was also a proud grandfather to five grandchildren and a cherished godfather to Ericka McNair of Three Rivers and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings. His memory will live on through his family and friends, whose love and support were constant throughout his life.
Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life was held on December 28, 2024, at Ray Funeral Services in Three Rivers. A graveside service will take place on July 22, 2025, at 1:00 at Riverside Cemetery in Three Rivers, where his cremated remains will be laid to rest.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Fred’s honor be made to the Animal Rescue Foundation, envelopes are available at the funeral home.
