St. Joseph County Transportation Authority provided more rides last week as part of its “New Year’s Eve Free Ride Home” than it did a year before.
The six-hour service started at 7 p.m. Tuesday and attracted a total of 18 people, according to CTA Director Allen Balog.
The mark was two people more compared to the eve of 2024.
Balog said the two most-popular pickup points were at Cowboy Up in Mendon Township and Tomahawk Tavern in White Pigeon Township.
More than three-fourths of the $800 it costs to stage the two-vehicle service was covered by donations. Balog acknowledged the support of Gibby’s Hometown Pub in Mendon, The In-Between Restaurant & Lounge in Sturgis Township, Nottawa Gas, Frank Perez Insurance Agency, Three Rivers Moose Lodge No. 474, Tomahawk Tavern, and area residents Pat and Kelly Monahan.
This marked the 14th year of the CTA’s New Year’s Eve Free Ride Home.
