Grant secured for Church of Cassopolis

Cass County officials recently announced that a solution to a decades-long issue related to an abandoned church is on the horizon.

The matter centers on the Church of Cassopolis. Located at 520 Pearl St., it is one of seven buildings set to be demolished as part of a third round of the State Land Bank Authority’s Blight Elimination Program.

A grant secured by the Cass County Land Bank Authority has allowed leaders at the Church of Cassopolis to move forward with a long-sought answer to razing the building.

County officials said all seven properties have been abandoned for a year or more, with utilities, plumbing, heating and sewage systems either disconnected, destroyed or rendered ineffective.
