Mark Edward Manning, age 64, of Sturgis, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025, at his home. He was born on February 24, 1960, in Lincoln Park, Michigan, to Donald Ray Manning and Edwina Mary Pierzhala.
Mark married Kim Murphy on October 8, 1988, in Riverview, Michigan, and they shared 36 years of love and companionship. Mark spent about 40 years living in the Detroit area before relocating to Sturgis, where he lived for the last 25 years of his life.
Mark worked for Kline’s Construction in Centreville, and Peterson Spring in Three Rivers, and was a proud member of the Sturgis Fraternal Order of the Eagles #1314.
Mark was an avid outdoorsman who loved to golf, hunt, fish, camp, and canoe. He was a passionate sports fan, especially of University of Michigan Football and the Detroit Red Wings. He also had a talent for cooking, grilling, and smoking meats. Mark had a deep appreciation for history, reflected in his collection of history books and his interest in history TV shows.
Mark was a loving husband, brother, and uncle. He adored his dogs and loved spending time with his family and friends. Known for his big heart and caring nature, he was affectionately described as a “big teddy bear.” He was a great friend to many, and his presence will be deeply missed.
Mark is survived by his loving wife, Kim Manning; brothers Matt (Debbie) Manning of Clover, South Carolina, and Mike Manning of Clover, South Carolina; father-in-law Bob Murphy of Rockwood, Michigan; brother-in-law Keith (Jenny) Murphy of Newburg, Indiana, and Mike Murphy of Southgate, Michigan; nieces and nephews Chris, Emily, Eric, and Kaylee; and best friends Dave (Heather) Chapman of Nottawa, and Terrance Brighman of Centreville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Edwina Manning; mother-in-law Barbara Murphy; sister-in-law Anna Murphy; and nephew Alex Murphy.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A gathering to celebrate Mark’s life will be held at his home when the weather is warmer.
