Maynard H. Rumsey, age 97, of Three Rivers, passed away at Birch Meadows Senior Care on Thursday, January 9, 2025. He was born in Three Rivers on January 25, 1927, the son of Harley and Faye (Avery) Rumsey.
Maynard was inducted into the U.S. Army during March 1945. Following basic training, he was sent to Osaka, Japan as a part of occupation forces after the atomic bombs were dropped at the end of World War II.
After his discharge in late 1946, Maynard returned to his job at Eddy Paper Company, which later became Weyerhaeuser. He worked there for 44 years, the latter 20 as a supervisor.
Maynard married his wife, Joyce (Hay), on June 25, 1949. They were married for 73 years, until her passing on February 20, 2023.
Upon retirement, Maynard purchased a small farm where he enjoyed raising chickens, goats, and horses. He loved all animals, but his horses held a special place in his heart.
Maynard treasured his family, his many lifelong friends, and his special bond with those in the Amish community.
Remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Debra (Gene) Schull; son, Dennis (Joy) Rumsey; grandchildren, Andrew (Amber) Schull and Alyssa Rumsey; and great-granddaughter Alison Schull.
Maynard was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother Hilda Rumsey, stepbrother Wilbur Munson, foster sister Mildred Hull, and a grandson, Daniel Schull.
Visitation will be held at the Hohner Funeral Home, 1004 Arnold Street, Three Rivers on Monday, January 13, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery.
