Rodney Dean Roach, age 62, of Athens, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Bronson Hospital in Battle Creek following a lengthy illness. He was born in Battle Creek on July 6, 1962 the son of Dennis and Donna (Marble) Roach. Rod’s passion was restoring old cars back to their glory days, whether it was a Monte Carlo, Ranchero, or a Grand Prix, he loved cars. However, he absolutely loved his truck; climbing the sand dunes at Silver Lake. If there were tires involved, odds were, Rod was too; even learning how to put out grass fires with a dirt bike against his mother’s wishes and building go-karts with his brother in their younger years. Rod loved taking his boys fishing and hit up almost every body of water in the surrounding area. He was a hard-working man who enjoyed the simplicities of life; a good western movie or a car show and some classic rock or country music.
Rodney is survived by his two sons; Steven Wood and Robert Roach; two grandchildren; four siblings; Rick Roach, Denise Hunter, Kim Roach, and Tim Roach; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson; and brother-in-law, Mike Hunter.
In keeping with Rodney’s wishes, cremation is being conducted. There will be a Celebration of Life held on February 8, 2025 at 5pm at Hickory Hills Village (10450 6 Mile Road, Battle Creek). It is suggested that donations made in Rodney’s name be made to the Eickhoff Funeral Home to help cover expenses. Condolences and memories may be expressed to the family at eickhofffuneralhome.com.
