TR to change drinking-water system chemicals

In response to the Lead Action Level Exceedances experienced during its required lead-copper sampling, Three Rivers has been working with EGLE to improve its corrosion-control treatment program.

Beginning Wednesday, the city will make two major changes to chemicals in its drinking-water system, per EGLE’s designations.

The first component centers on increasing the amount of chlorine added to the system, while the other has to do with changing the phosphate blend. Both changes have been shown to increase corrosion protection in a drinking-water system, according to Amy Roth, DPS director.

Although the change is expected to have a positive impact in the reduction of lead levels in lead-service lines, the aesthetic water quality may diminish with this change and include the presence of red or turbid water.

Customers who experience diminished water quality should contact DPS at 273-1845.
