Vicksburg renews recycling contract

Vicksburg Village Council has renewed its annual contract with Kalamazoo County for recycling options and hazardous waste disposal.

During their Jan. 6 meeting, council members approved the $2,500 pact. It covers the 2025 calendar year.

Village manager Jim Mallery said the agreement allows Vicksburg residents to discard hazardous waste and drop off recyclable items at the Kalamazoo County Household Hazardous Waste Center, located at the county fairgrounds.

Mallery said the $2,500 is capped, meaning the village will be required to chip in more money if the quantity of items discarded by Vicksburg residents exceeds a set amount over the 12-month period.

According to data collected by facility manager Jennifer Kosak, 94 Vicksburg residents used the site for disposal in 2024. Specifically, 14 Vicksburg residents patronized it in the first quarter, 28 in the second quarter, 15 in the third and 37 in the period covering October, November and December.
