Animals lost in house fire

Two dogs and many other animals perished in a house fire last weekend in Three Rivers.

Fire Chief Paul Schoon said firefighters responded to a house fire at noon Sunday in the 600 block of Eighth Street.

According to Schoon, firefighters arrived to witness heavy fire, with smoke coming out of the first-floor. Schoon said the homeowner was not present at the time of the blaze.

He said it took personnel about 10 minutes for the fire to be brought under control and eventually extinguished before it spread to the second floor of the house.

In addition to the two dogs, a few small, unidentified animals were also lost due to the blaze.

Firefighters did, however, manage to save a number of reptiles, two dogs and six puppies.
