Barbara J. Williams, age 94, of Millbrook, Alabama, and a longtime former resident of Sturgis passed away Sunday, February 23, 2025, at Baptist Prattville Hospital in Prattville, Alabama.
She was born June 17, 1930, in Chicago, daughter of the late Harry J. and F. Virginia (Swain) Carter.
Barbara resided in Millbrook, Alabama, for the past six years, coming from Sturgis, where she was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1948.
On October 23, 1948, she married Charles N. Williams in Sturgis. He preceded her in death August 18, 2014.
She had been employed by the State of Michigan from 1966-1985.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sturgis, the Garden Club of Thurston Woods Village, life member of Jack Johnston Chapter #88 DAV Auxiliary, and Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW Auxiliary.
Barbara is survived by her daughters: Julie Kennard of Sturgis and Lisa Ashley of Millbrook, Alabama; son: Charles (Linda) Williams of Sturgis; grandchildren: Timothy (Angie) Kennard of Grass Lake, Jennifer (Chad) VanWagner of Sturgis, Chuck (Kara) Williams of Vicksburg, Christina (Jay) Armstrong of Lowell and Angel (Vincent) Azzarello of Millbrook,, Alabama; 11 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter: Mary Ellen Williams, grandchildren: Andrea Ashley and Larry Ashley and son-in-law: Timothy C. Kennard.
In honoring Mrs. Williams wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial graveside service and interment of the remains will take place at 1:00, Saturday, June 7th at Sturgis Memorials Gardens. The Rev. Glenn Russel of Fellowship Bible Church of Sturgis will officiate.
The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the local arrangements.
