Doris Esther “Dee” Meyer, age 86, passed away Monday, February 03, 2025 at Birch Meadows Senior Care in Three Rivers.
Dee was born in Woodbury, Tennessee on December 20th, 1938. She was the daughter of Izetta White Mooneyham-Cain and graduated from Jackson High School with the class of 1956. Dee grew up in a small home in Woodbury, Tennessee until her mother moved them to Jackson, Michigan to be closer to family. Throughout school, Dee was known to have friends whom she enjoyed spending time with as well as her older sister Hazel, whom she always looked up to and adored.
After graduating from High School, Dee attended the Jackson School of Business for two years (1957-1959), which set her into a buying position first with L. H. Fields, and then with Gantos Department store. Once she was thriving at the department store she was offered a new position with IBM, in Grand Rapids. Dee happily took the position and flourished and was later offered a management position in Phoenix. As a natural adventurer, Dee was elated with the opportunities this brought and she threw herself into her career. While living in the Phoenix area, Dee opened a framing store in Sun Valley where her creative artistic talents could be displayed. Her love for a challenge of being a woman in corporate America gave her the drive to pursue her dreams.
On August 15, 1998 she married the love of her life Leo Ezra “Corky” Meyer. Throughout their 26 years of marriage they lived a beautiful life together. When they weren’t in Michigan, or at their home in the Florida Keys, they were often traveling and off on new adventures. Their summer through fall was full of time at the lake with family and friends. They also enjoyed road tripping in Michigan and across the country. They enjoyed date nights at the movies, or sneaking away on a cruise to the drive-in for root beer floats. Everyone who knew the couple could tell they were truly happy and loved living life together. Dee also enjoyed spending time with her family. Telling stories of her childhood, teaching her granddaughters how to properly apply cosmetics, and hosting beautiful gatherings where memories were made.
Remaining to cherish her memories are her daughter Teresa (Bill) Weaver, Julie (Steve) Pond, son Chris (Christy) Meyer, Son Leo (Holly) Meyer, son Peter Meyer. Grandchildren Amanda Shaw, Tanner (Kelsey) Pond, Austin Pond, Magen (Eli) McNutt, Patrick Meyer, Charlise Meyer, Katharine Meyer.
