Man who left child in car to be sentenced

A Vicksburg man who pleaded guilty to leaving a child in a vehicle causing death will be sentenced in March.

Kalamazoo County Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Williams said 36-year-old Chad Martin pleaded guilty Jan. 21.

The case stems from an incident Aug. 13, when Martin left home at 6 a.m. with his two children, intending to drop them off at their respective daycares, authorities said. Martin dropped off his daughter but forgot to drop off his son and went to work, Martin told investigators.

His 3-year-old was left in the car with its windows rolled up for about nine hours, authorities said.

After work, Martin stopped at Family Fare in Vicksburg, where he discovered his son unresponsive in his car seat.
