Michael Melvin Hendrick of Three Rivers, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at the age of 80. He was born on July 7, 1944 in Kalamazoo. He was the son of Melvin and Lucille (Schleisman) Hendrick.
A graduate of Comstock High School with the Class of 1962, Mike furthered his education with a bachelor’s degree in business from Western Michigan University. His love for learning and passion for his craft influenced many around him, highlighting his commitment not only to his work but also to personal growth.
Mike served his country in the United States Marine Reserves before embarking on a fulfilling career that spanned over 40 years as a Journeyman Carpenter at American Axel. His meticulous attention to detail, ambition, and organizational skills set him apart in his profession, showcasing his God-given talent for carpentry.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mike took great pride in his family. He celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage to his beloved wife, Patricia, having tied the knot on March 2, 1974. Together, they shared a passion for travel, enjoying many adventures in their RV, exploring the beauty of the United States. His roles as a husband, father, and grandfather were among his proudest accomplishments, where he made an indelible mark in the lives of his loved ones. Mike will be remembered for his memorable catchphrases and words of wisdom. He possessed an unwavering spirit, as evidenced by his loyalty to the Detroit Lions; a devoted football fan, he supported the team through the highs and lows. Above all else, his strong devotion to his faith in God was demonstrated through various acts of service to friends and family throughout his life.
As a hardworking and goal-oriented individual, Mike poured his heart into every endeavor. His legacy lives on through the memories he created with family and friends, forever embedded in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Survived to mourn his absence are his wife, Patricia; four children: Michele (Saurabh) Bhan; Joseph Hendrick; Sarah Hendrick and Laura Hendrick; and two grandchildren: Eva and Noah Bhan. He is also survived by his special lifelong friends: Frank and Marti Nock; as well as his mini Goldendoodle: Teddy. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 5855 East W Ave, Vicksburg, on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at 11am with Monsignor Thomas Martin officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 4pm to 7pm and then again one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. He will be buried with military honors privately on Tuesday at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Kalamazoo.
