Sherwood Township man faces child pornography charges

A Sherwood Township man faces a number of charges related to child pornography.

Branch County officials said Jerry Surber, 65, was arraigned this week and faces three felony counts of possession of child sexually abusive material. In addition, authorities have charged Surber with using a computer to commit a crime.

The case was investigated by Michigan State Police beginning last summer. Authorities were made aware of the situation through a tip from Amazon Photo, court officials said.

A search warrant was eventually executed at Surber’s residence and a number of electronics were removed from the premises. An analysis of the items allegedly found several files containing child pornography, authorities said.

Surber pleaded not guilty to the charges. He will be back in court Feb. 13 for a probable cause hearing. A preliminary examination is scheduled to take place a week later.
