Velma L. Green, age 95, of Sturgis, went to join her husband in heaven Wednesday morning, February 12, 2025, at her home.
She was born March 11, 1929, in Three Rivers, daughter of the late Evert S. and Belva H. (Summey) Hartman.
Velma resided in Sturgis since 1947, coming from Beloit, Wisconsin.
On September 4, 1948, she married Clifford N. Green at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis. He preceded her in death November 15, 1996.
In 1991 Velma retired from the Kirsch Company in Sturgis following over 35 years of dedicated employment. Prior to joining the Kirsch Company, she worked at Sturgis Newport Business Forms and Harvey Paper Company, both in Sturgis.
She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis where she and Cliff were active with the Knights of Columbus.
Velma enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, and working around her home, and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her son: Terry Green of Sturgis; daughters: Bonnie West of Durango, Colorado, Kathleen Stallard and Debra (Steve) Ulmer both of Sturgis; grandchildren: Teresa (Norman) Coley, Heather Deeds, Darcy (Rob) Ryall, Christopher Green, Amy West, Mark West, Jason (Abby) Cable, Alyssa (Riley) Keehr and Moria (Chris) Soden; 23 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson: Nathan Ulmer; son-in-law: John West; sister and her husband Juanita (Ed) Matthes and brothers and their wives: William (Dixie) Hartman and Robert (Carolyn and Betty) Hartman.
In honoring Velma’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial graveside service and celebration of life will take place at a later date to be announced.
The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.
