Elaine Beth Schmidt, age 72, of Parker City, Indiana, passed peacefully from this earth on Saturday, March 8th, 2025. She was born in Sturgis on April 2nd, 1952 to the late Luther Melvin and Betty Jane (Holsinger) Tozer.
She attended Sturgis High School. After school she worked as a cashier at Garden City Thrifty mart. On October 18th, 1980 she married the love of her life, Charlie Schmidt. She left the workforce and became a stay at home mom to their 3 children.
Elaine was a free and feisty spirit with a personality that was quirky and unique. While she wasn’t much of a people person she truly enjoyed her flower gardening. She spent countless hours tending to weeds, designing the flower beds, and making sure everything always looked beautiful . Although she was never one who wanted the spotlight, she was on the Purdue Master Gardener Tour and thoroughly enjoyed everyone admiring the fruits of her labor. She kept an immaculate house, loved redecorating the home, baking cookies, going to the beach, and shopping. She was the queen of good deals. She did so much for her family. Acts of service and gift giving were her favorite ways to show love. She was thoughtful and supportive. Selfless… because the needs of her family came before her own.
After her stroke 3 years ago, her husband stepped into the role of caring for her full time. She was quick to tell him how to do things, when he wasn’t doing something right and the two of them learned how to walk this new challenge in life. He kept his promise… to have and to hold, in sickness and in health. His deep love and undivided care are to be credited for her fighting to stay earth side as long as possible. They were such a fun and comical duo, never a dull moment. Her light will forever be missed by those who loved and knew her.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Charlie, children Jennifer (Phil) Smith, Sarah (Eric) Pugh, David Schmidt and 2 grandchildren: Koltyn and Rowan; One brother, Larry Tozer of Michigan and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Danny Tozer.
There will be no public service at her request.
The family would like to thank Nurse Kelcie and home health aide Melinda from United Health Care for taking such great care of Elaine. She always looked forward to their visits and talks.
Arrangements have been entrusted to MJS Mortuaries-Farmland Chapel.
